Never ever underestimate FARs capacity for institutionalised incompetence! They’ve only had 30 years and BILLIONS of dollars to work out how to record a serial number against a name so you need to give them enough time!

Complain to your local MP. I have done this before and it actually worked. Sadly my local MP is labor but he did listen to me and helped me where he could.. I told him the wait time was unreasonable for a paid service and does not increase community safety. So he got his admin clerk to talk to the police ministers office about slow processing times and I got a phone call by the police that it was all approved.

I would rather do life in jail than put 1 next to a labor candidates name however I still use my local member even if he is labor as he is my servant.

3 weeks and still waiting for the paper work for a rifle you load with stick and fire with a rock.
My last pta for a 150 yo Snider was 98 days! They lost the application TWICE and therefore were in breach of their dealers license TWICE!
They couldn’t run a chook raffle in a pub!

It's unfortunate how things have changed lately. I recall the days when you'd arrive at the gun store around 8 AM, do your shopping in town, and as you were about to leave, receive a call saying it was all clear to come pick it up.. Those days are gone now, it seems.

So…having lodged an online pta on the 28th of April and by the 28th May (30 days and they’re required by law to have it processed in 28) I’d received nothing but the confirmation and and pdf of the application so I then lodged an online enquiry quoting the reference number.
10 days later (now at 45 days and climbing they’re in breach of the act again) I get an email saying they hadn’t received the application even though they sent a confirmation and reference number and the 4 page pdf of the application. I’m not even kidding!
Given that my last pta (lodged by a licensed dealer) was lost TWICE putting the LRD in breach of the act TWICE) ended up taking a ludicrous NINETY EIGHT DAYS, my patience is wea…gone - it’s GONE!
So now I’ve got my local MP involved to help sort it out and advise me who to write to re lodging a formal complaint (for all the good it will do) but at least it’s another negative outcome for them.
Considering they’ve had 30 years and literally billions of dollars to come up with come a reliable way to record a serial number next to a name, this performance is nothing less than gross, institutionalised incompetence!
I have ample grounds to claim that if these clowns had 6 arms they couldn’t find find their own arse to wipe it!

Well, just 1 hr ago received this email.

Licensing & Regulation Division (LRD) is in receipt of your e-mail dated 31/05/2024.

Please be advised that LRD does not send a confirmation of disposal of firearms, in noting this, LRD can confirm that this transaction has been processed.
A Firearm Registration Certificate Request for the Licence Holder acquiring the firearm has been submitted and this will be dispatched to the recorded postal address.

Got me beat, I got a disposal certificate last time, but that must be 20 years ago now.

Unreal! I’m waiting 47 days and climbing and will stand by every claim I’ve made about them!

Brethren, what the hell is going on with PTAs?

It's been over 7 weeks since my permit was submitted by the gun shop where I paid for a second hand A/B gun in full. I live in Melbourne. Still no permit to acquire! I used to get them the next day!

It's got me wondering, is everyone else having the same experience? Do they take different amounts of time based on who is submitting it or is it all single file? What has changed?
May the force be with you.

I got the gun shop to apply for the PTA's for me. I think I'll go with the online option from now on. Never applied for one myself.

Odd that it's taking so long.
The only reason I can see, is that PTA's can now be submitted online via the LRD website by anyone with a firearm licence, with no limit, and most importantly, no cost!
LGS' normally change you the standard $15 for a PTA. Perhaps this has something to do with it?
