Re: pistol powder pirates

Thomas Sowell is a great thinker of our era.... But what should be clear is that one is under no obligation to pay those high prices. It's not like one is dealing with the Government or some other form of mafia. If it's the only powder on the market you may well be obligated to pay it, if you want ...

Re: Where do they get there Primers from

Graeme Forbes of Forbes Wholesale, who were the long-time Oz RWS agents, tells the tale of ADI flying in shipments of primers from Germany, while he had ample stocks of cheaper seafreighted RWS primers on hand! ADI/Thales have never locally produced Boxer primers AFAIK. The old Footscray factory onl...

Re: 12ga. reloading

The local club Bladeracer mentions is FGA affiliated; here's their rundown on their version of Sim Field - it's very good fun.

Re: ADJUSTABLE COMB KITS IN AUS...

I don't know if he actually does these, but I'd call Kevin Sharp of RE Sharp & Sons in Bairnsdale, Vic - (03) 5152 6999 for a recommendation. He has a couple of my own shotguns in hand just now. There is a shottie stockmaker by the name of Kevin Wright near Ballarat, Vic; but I've heard some mix...

Re: 12ga. reloading

Crimps - yours look quite good bladeracer, here are some examples of some of mine, off the MEC 650. Win AA Compression Formed hulls, which were always the gold standard for good crimps. IMG_1146a.JPG The slight 'swirl' can be adjusted out, BTW, if you want to be that 'anal retentive'. Do you h...

Re: Cast bullets and hunting

Def too hard , hence my preference for soft lead in jackets Yep; commercial hard cast are fine for paper punching, but 'pencil through' on game. After taking on board advice from some long-time casters over on AHN, I'll be trying a 20:1 Lead/Pewter mix soonish, in a Win94 .44-40 lever I have. Bore ...

Re: ADI 1kg

bladeracer, could I interest you in a full 2kg tin [not placcy bottle] of AS50N, for a good price? Say, 20% under whatever the VRA Shop currently gets for it? I have big [2-2.5kg] tins of the equivalent burn rate/s Nobel 60 and Nobel 80 to work my way through; so the AS50N is really 'surplus to cur...

Anyone actually purchased one of the ADI powder in the new 1kg yet? Not talking about the BM series that is already available. Have seen it advertised however not in the flesh yet. Nope, but I have bought some 1kg bottles before. I picked up some AS50N today but they only had 500gm bottles so I onl...

Re: Bio-Deg wads/shotcups?

Hes trying to make biodegradable shot cups....loose shot in a shell is pretty easy to make. Mate, I think you need to read his posts a bit more carefully - the shot cups are only one part, of a fully biodegradable wad column... bladeracer, PM inbound, about a hands-on wadmaking session... Re: Bio-Deg wads/shotcups?

G'day all, What Eley in the UK do, is to 'turn back the clock', and revert to an old-time [as used from the blackpowder days, until the 1960s] multi-component punched wad column, for their 'bio friendly' loads. This basically consists of a hard cardboard overpowder wad, sized to grip the case walls,...

Re: Where do you guys pick up your lead for melting?

I can’t believe I’m reading that people are burning batteries in their backyards to get lead. Not safe for the home hobbyist. Don’t. Rip the terminals off and leave it at that if you're really desperate. This, plus a biggest one. And I say this wearing my 'professional hats' - dual qualified Indust...

Re: 12ga. reloading

Hi bladeracer, I'm back on the air now, after some IT issues [dying video card et seq] that took most of the week to get sorted a bit. Typing this on a new HP notebook PC... Resurrection of the old office PC is gonna have to wait until I get time to attend to it. A lot of good references from Browne...

Re: top 5 best brass for reloading

Sako brass is also right up with Lapua.

Put it this way, I paid more for 100 x .222 once fired Sako cases from Rebel Gunworks, than new Winchester from my local would have cost, simply because they're worth it.

Re: 12ga. reloading

bladerunner, for Lead inserts to fit in the stock bolt hole, there are a couple of easy options.
One is to fill a thin walled plastic tube with shot, and plug the ends. The other is to get your hands on some sheet 'plumbers' flashing' Lead, and roll it tightly into a cylinder.

Re: 12ga. reloading

For years I shot clays with a 1970s vintage Franchi U/O, fixed chokes of 3/4 and Full. Stock had been smith bent to fit me [and I'm a leftie], too. These days, with a Miroku 4800 Gr IV trap gun, and choke tubes, I've settled on Improved Modified and Light Modified Carlson's choke tubes. Works great!...

Re: 12ga. reloading

Awesome Gadge :-) Have you experimented with reduced-recoil loads as I'm trying to achieve? I have AP50N, AP70N, AR2205 and Trailboss in the fastest-burning powders. I don't keep any AS powders on hand as it never occurred to me I would ever want to load 12ga. :-) I have not yet tried Trailboss but...

Re: 12ga. reloading

bladeracer, the rule of thumb for powder burn rates here, is lighter shot charge=faster powder. I've been reloading shottie shells for over 40 years now, and of the current ADI range, I mostly use AS50N for target loads. Except when I'm using up some older Nobel equivalent powder - currently running...

Re: MIROKU EXTENDED CHOKE OPTIONS...

There is also Carlsons chokes that you can buy at some shops or through Brownells for about $70 each. They have also been around for many years but I have not used them or have any experience with them. I have extended Carlsons in my Miroku 4800 Grade IV trap gun. Bought them direct out of the US, ...

Re: Please identify this beretta

With Beretta SXS, the actual model number is generally stamped into the fore-end wood, in one of the barrel channels. Definitely not a base model gun, in any case. Does it have extractors or ejectors? As No1Mk3 says, if you can provide clear pics of the various proofmarks, it's quite easy to determi...

Greetings Jarhead and folks, This unit is early 1970s vintage - I used one at high school, to load the shells for the DTL shooting we used to do on the weekly 'sports arvo', as an alternate option to the usual field sports. It was made in Oz for Fuller Firearms, a major importer/distributor back the...
