Plinking / target shooting on private property?

Post by Hadoku » 24 Jul 2013, 10:02 am

Hi,

I know hunting with a pistol is not allowed on private property. What about plinking and target shooting?

I don't mean running a paid shooting range or anything like, just shooting by myself for entertainment every once in a while.

I have access to a property which has plenty of hills for backdrops etc. where I could do it safely. Looking to do .22 as well so should be quiet for the neighbours etc.

Legal or not for this one? A few people must do this...

If they do they're in for a rude shock if the police get wind of it.

This will be covered in your safety/training courses but short answer = no.

Regardless of how safe your shooting setting may be or how little impact there may be on your neighbours...

That sucks. You should be able to plink on your property if it's big enough IMO.

Unfortunately that's not the country we live in.

This can't be correct, I have never heard of it at all.

Part of the condition for possessing a firearm is having a valid reason.

For us civies the only reason to have a pistol is target shooting, and this is only allowed at an approved range.

Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it's not true.

If I were you, I'd check with your local weapons dept before doing anything you'll regret.

I thought of getting a .22 pistol to destroy animals that unfortunitly needed a second shot, ( sounded like a good reson to me ) I was dissipointed to discover that they cant be used for that...... To bad the rules are so tight,

Good reason for us, and good reason for the Government = two different things :(
