No firearms license required for them in WA. They are basically just a big lighter. We have a proper flamethrower down on the farm though, can't remember if that required a permit or something similar. It's used for clearing our paddocks.

When I had my farm my kero flamethrower had a range of about 4 mtrs. quite legal in Victoria back in the 90's and I still see them come up at farm clearing sales, Word of advice on blackberries, worst thing you can do is burn them you will never get the green runner suckers living underground or the seed pods even if you have poisoned them, by burning them they will come back stronger, if you have poisoned and they look dead the only way is to rip with long tynes, mound up and have a bonfire, re-rip and re-poison a week later, then plow over, then it's a matter of checking weekly for any signs of regrowth, blackberries are a bastard to get rid of, most of our high country creeks and rivers are infested with them and it's all been caused by 4x4's coming from infected areas carrying seed.

Elon Musk is one of those "I had a cool idea, f*** it lets do it" kinda guys. Except, instead of "lets re-pave the veranda" its "lets build a rocketship/flamethrower/hyperloop/electric supercar."

He just does stuff he thinks is cool. He's quite inspiring, actually.
