Can a firearm be reclassified from a cat C/D to cat A/B?

Questions about Victorian gun and ammunition laws. Victorian Firearms Act 1996.

Can a firearm be reclassified from a cat C/D to cat A/B?

It is my understand that firearms are able to be moved into a higher category with modifications take for example making a 5 shot Adler into a 7 shot would move it into a cat D. So are firearms able to be moved down categories as well?

I don't see why not.
But I would email Firearms and ask them about your specific situation.

Ever seen a gun law loosened rather than tightened?

Ever seen the Draconian restrictions placed on us become less rather than more persecutory?

I do agree with you, but generally the authorities do let us own Cat A/B firearms that actually comply with their classification :-)

Reducing mag capacity is probably the only instance I can think of where a higher Cat firearm might fit into a lesser category.
I turned a single-shot .22 bolt-rifle into a 10-shot repeater but it's still Cat A.

Fair enough Blade, I tend not to push my luck as Mr Murphy seems to have had me in mind when he wrote his law.
