Selling unused ammunition privately?

Post by Grated » 25 Jul 2013, 1:49 pm

Hi all,

I have a .243 which I've recently been going through a dozen brands of ammo with to see what works best for my set up.

I found a few that work well, and a few which work not so well.

As a result I now have quite a bit of ammo left which doesn't work so well in my rifle. I'd rather sell it than just put 40-50 rounds down range to get rid of them.

Any problems with me selling ammo to another LAFO with the right license?

Cheers.

Give you're FA registry a call.

From memory it's ok in some states to sell to fellow licence holder, but if I recall correctly in SA you did have to be a dealer specifically?

Pain in the ass this one... I enquired about this a while ago.

Got told by 1 store I could not sell, told by another that I could.

Was then told by FA registry that I could not sell, but told by regional firearms officer at my local cop shop that I could (once I sighted their gun license)

All too hard in the end for a few boxes of ammo and I just put them down range instead.

Thanks all.

You're right Herdsman, all too hard.

Not a big deal so I will just put them down range myself.

That's the one thing I envy the US over a little.

We got told by SA Firearms we are allowed to sell 50,000 rounds each on a normal gun licence.

I'd like to see that in writing...

That seems like a bizarre limit to have. When could an individual ever have remotely close to that much ammo?

Agreed. Not my problem though, just going by what we were told.

That's the problem with half our laws. You do what you're told according to one government body then get in the s**t from another :/
