Buying Interstate

Post by GojiraSteve » 11 Nov 2018, 11:11 am

Hey fellas, wondering if someone can clarify how interstate purchases work.
Like can I walk into a QLD gun shop, with a NSW PTA and walk out with a new rifle? Or does the thing need to be shipped to a NSW dealer for transfer to my NSW licence?
Cheers

No idea on nsw. But I recon it be similar.

You can buy from qld dealer, but they will ship to vic dealer of your choice and you pickup from the vic dealer. Even if you are in qld, and present at the shop

A NSW PTA would have no validity in Qld.
The second part is "almost" correct. You would need to purchase it from the Qld dealer, who would then transfer it to your nominated NSW dealer, from whom you are technically uplifting the item. You will need to pay shipping and any transfer fees. The NSW dealer will then complete the details of transfer (broker) from him to your NSW licence.
Interstate transfers are only possible, dealer to dealer.

The majority of my (many!) guns have been purchased online and from interstate sellers. As has been described, all you have E to do is supply the name of your transferring dealer, pay for shipping and pick up your firearm from said nominated dealer when. It turns up. Present your PTA and pay the transfer fee and you're good to go
