Storing powder and primers? (VIC)

Post by mark04 » 05 Jul 2013, 1:51 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to reloading so forgive the stupid question... Where do I need to store powder and primers (as opposed to live ammo) to keep everything legal?

I have a locked metal chest, will that do the job? Have read some mixed info regarding the rules from state to state, what's the story in VIC?

Thanks for any info.

If I recall correctly, there isn't anything specific about storing powder/primers in the firearms act for Victoria because it isn't considered 'live' ammunition.

I believe it's a 'dangerous goods' item which is covered elsewhere. Something to check, but that's the case as I understand it.

Either way, best to store it separately and securely as a safety / security precaution. Lockable metal chest (separate from your firearms) would be fine for storing powder and primers.

Thanks Lorgar,

I'll look into the dangerous goods info and just store it separately until then.

Just store it separately. No worries when I had my police inspection after doing this.

VIC's got it good. Try WA firearms storage laws :(
