I just got my A/B this week, submitted early Feb. Still waiting for my H. Mine were interstate transfers. If you call up they tell you not to until 14 weeks, and they'll call you if there's a problem. I called up at 15 week's and she said they were still processing December applications and to wait.

I lodged my application online (QLD) on Wednesday night just gone and by the time I checked my emails Thursday morning, they were asking me to go in for ID checking. ID was verified at the local station yesterday. Is that pretty standard and am I still up for a 4-6 month wait?

After submitting the W.L.A. online I had a 12 weeks wait until I received an email to front at the local police station for a I.D. verification check.
The check will take about 10 days and had my licence 3 weeks later. Total 15 weeks.
Note: When a WLA is submitted, there is a mandatory waiting period of 28 days, so you won't hear from them until this period has pasted.
A PTA was also submitted at the same time and this should be received about 3 weeks after your licence.
"More or Less" - depending on the work load.
Enjoy...

I'm of two minds about the PTA system for VIC.

On one hand it only takes a few hours to a day for a PTA to come back after you submit it online so you can't really complain.

On the other hand what's the point... It gets sent off, they says yes you have a license for this, then they approve it. Waste of time obviously...

They could easily just give the gun shop access to check someones license status and skip the whole process and do things on the spot instead.

Exactly VICHunter, why can't a PTA been done directly through a licenced Gun Shop, makes perfect sense to me and why can't this apply to ALL states.

Think of not only the time saved but may create a few more retail jobs as well.
Cheers.

The squeaky wheal gets the oil. Write a letter and email it to the commissioner of police and your local mp. It should then be fixed soon.

There is no "probably" about it.

I have no problem with a sensible mandatory waiting period. VIC is a month for example, but you get your license in a month give or take a few days.

Making us wait 3, 6, 9 months... However long they feel like until they begrudgingly groan and finally do it because we're not going away is bulls**t though.

Yes, it is beyond a joke.

Surely though if enough people came forward about it and stood together on the matter things may get changed to make it easier on the people who would be trying to obtain their licence in future.

I wonder how starting a petition would go if enough gun owners supported it to have more people dealing with weapons licencing to be able to get things done within in a reasonable time frame

I swear they purposely make us wait 12 weeks, so many guys I've talked to have received emails from them for ID checks at the 12 week mark on the day pretty much.

Sadly they never take off.

There have been plenty of petitions comes through for various things and they never get more than a few hundred signatures that I've seen.

The delay for Licences to be issued is very frustrating and for your interest I refer in part to the Qld. Weapons Act 1990 - Part 2 Licences -

s15 Authorised officer decides application
(1) An authorised officer must decide an application for a licence (other than renewal of a licence) as soon as practicable after the end of the period prescribed for this section under a regulation.
(2) However, the authorised officer may decide the application within the prescribed period if the applicant is the holder of an existing licence of another class.
(3) In deciding the application, the authorised officer may consider anything at the officer’s disposal.

Yes, very frustrating,

Cheers.
