Air rifle laws?

Post by banoob » 25 Sep 2013, 2:14 pm

Hi all,

I'm just trying to find info on air rifles laws here in NSW.

After a failed attempt to navigate around the NSW Police website on my crappy tablet (comp is broken ) I've given up and am turning to the forum for answers.

An air rifles is pretty wussy compare to a "real" rifle obviously, are the air rifle laws much the same in terms of picking one up?

Thanks.

Yes and no.

A license is required for an air rifle the same as any other longarm, regardless of its wussyness.

Legally, it's a "Category A" firearm, the same as rimfire rifle or shotgun.

You have to go through all the same BS to get one, you might as well get your A/B license and be able to get centre fire rifles as well.

Yep, waste of time to get just a Cat A license.

Yeah, get cat A/B license so you can shoot the lot.

You'll get sick of having just an air rifle in no time ;)

There are air rifles and then their are air rifles though...

I agree than an old plinker of an air rifle isn't much to be concerned about.

Some of the modern ones though are on part with rim-fire and small centre fire stuff these days though in terms of power. At modest distances anyway...

There are air rifles well beyond "small" centre fire. Can't remember the brand but there are people doing up to .416 calibre stuff now.

I think I've seen the stuff your talking about... Hunters taking decent size boar and stuff with air rifles.

I'll stick with my centrefire if it's all the same :D
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?
