Gifting a firearm?

Post by hootshoot » 14 Oct 2013, 1:43 pm

Hi all,

My missus has her longarm license but up until now has been sharing a few of my shooters when she felt like a shoot. I reckon it's time to get her something to call her own, and her birthday is coming up so that would be a excuse to give it to her.

What's the deal with gifting a firearm to something?

Obviously getting her to fill out a PTA and all that before her birthday will let the cat out of the bag.

Is there a way to gift her the firearm? Or not...

You can't make someone legal owner of it without their involvement.

She needs to agree to and take responsibility for all the legal stuff...

Unless she'll sign the paperwork blind folded for you?
Thin out their numbers, Ned!

Mmm, thin out their numbers!

You would have to get it yourself first, then you could "give" it to her and she can unwrap it and whatever, then you'd have to sell/transfer ownership of it via your LGS to make it actually hers.

Yeah.

You could buy/register it yourself and do the act of gift giving. Then for a time she'd technically be borrowing it from you whenever she was shooting it but could treat it like her own. For all intents and purposes it would be "belong" to her.

You'd just have to do a transfer via a gun shop if you wanted to make it hers on paper as well.
