Hunting when your genuine reason was target shooting

Post by chickapow » 18 Oct 2013, 10:50 am

Hi guys,

I've put in for my licence and realise I may have missed something.

I've joined the SSAA and put 'target shooting'as my genuine reason for needing a firearm.

This is what I'll be doing 99% of the time but would like the option to head out for a hunt if it came up.

Can I hunt on my license if I applied for it under the premise of target shooting?

Thanks.

In VIC I believe it's not Ok.

You will need to amend your license to include hunting if you want to do this.
Good news, everyone!

Annoyingly, you can do target shooting as a hunter (or without a license at all for that matter), but cannot go hunting as a target shooter in Victoria.

Thanks all.

You're right, Red... Had to amend my license, but wasn't a big deal.

Emailed updated paper work and it took a few weeks, got it updated without any drama though.
