Rifle barrel collection display?

Post by chookah » 12 Nov 2013, 12:28 pm

A mate of mine doing a bit of a clean out of the gun safe as things have built up over the years at the farm.

A few of them have been pretty neglected though and stocks are in poor condition, action is pitted and so on.

He's thinking about just handing them in for destruction, but I was thinking about keeping a few barrels for a bit of a display?

Is this kosher? Talking strictly barrels here only.

No actions or anything else?

Thanks.

A barrel is treated the same as a firearm.

If you want them they'll need to be registered and secured as per the norm.

Can't just stick em on the shelf.

Yup. If it's got a serial on it, it's gotta be registered.

Not much of a display if it's in the safe :(

Some sort of display window maybe?

Dunno what the rules are on that. Just an idea.

Your best bet would be ask the FAR about the legality of it. If the barrels aren't in the best condition anyway you could consider deactivating with a metal rod welded into the barrel.

Yep, if you want them on display (unsecured obviously) this is going to be your option.

Doesn't sound like you're ever doing to want to shoot with them again?
See you on the firing line.
