Muzzle adapters (fake suppresors)

Post by oldmateadz » 27 Nov 2016, 3:22 am

So, are fake suppresors illegal in NSW? I wanna put one on a Savage MKII FVSR. Mainly to lengthen the barrel and give it a bit more weight (and because it'd look cool).

I'd go a real one if you didn't have to go to Hell and back to get one. Wonderful laws we have here.

If not, can anyone suggest some sort of adapter to put on the end of the rifle that is law friendly? Long flash hider, compensator, muzzle brake, etc. I don't know too much about the restrictions of muzzle adapters.

Cheers.

If it can lower the volume at all it's illegal, get a nice big muzzle break and go to the other end of the spectrum haha

I'd go as far as to say if it looks like a suppressor then it'll be treated as such much in the way any replica of a prohibited weapon is treated as one and must be stored as such

I believe these fake suppressor are legal in all states...except NSW unfortunately. I saw .22 handguns for sale with compensators on the end that resembled suppressors, but as I said before, they are illegal in NSW.

Are "bloop tubes" legal?
I could well imagine prosecutors arguing that they resemble suppressors as well.

Compensators and brakes are both legal everywhere, no problem.

If you want it for style just pick whichever looks best to you. Just expect a little more noise when using one.

Someone makes 'fake' suppressors?

Don't they just make you look like a knob when you fire and still get a full report

I recall a device that for all intensive purposes looked like a suppressor but the end was open, it was called a "Sight extension tube". Sort of like the picture below but with a smaller blade out front. As always, if in doubt call and ask the registry.
