Safe storage for firearms collection

Post by oldmateadz » 05 Dec 2016, 10:01 am

Howdy,

I was looking at adding firearms collection category to my A/B/H licence (I have the paperwork, just haven't sent it off yet).
The president at my pistol club, which also is an authorised collectors club told me not to select Cat D on the collection licence form because you need an insane safe setup - as in your safe needs to be basically apart of your house.

I can't just buy a Cat ABCDH safe and bolt it to the wall and floor and that's it? Or do I need to build a safe that's apart of the house?

I don't have any immediate plans on buying a Cat D gun, but I figured I'd have it selected on the application just in case something comes up down the track.

Can I still have Cat D on the collectors licence without having the minimum safe storage requirements, as long as I don't have any cat d guns?
Keep on Shootin'!

I applied for my Cat G on the 2/11/2016 the status is "NEW APPLICATION IN PROGRESS - NOT AUTHORISED FOR FIREARMS". Storage for certain categories within the Cat G do require a level of security substantially higher then the regular Cat A/B. Safe storage level 9 is required in NSW and you can read all about it in the link below.

Huh?

They de-authorise your existing stuff while an application is pending?
