BB guns Australia

BB guns Australia

Post by beerd » 28 Nov 2013, 8:04 am

G'day fellas,

I'm a bit new to the shooting scene and still getting my head around all the details.

With Christmas coming up the kids wish list is growing by the hour, and a BB gun came up so they could "shoot like dad"

I did a bit of a read through the licensing application form and a few other bits, everything is in reference to Cat A or B and centrefire/rimfire etc.

Nothing on BB guns.

Question is, what's the deal with BB guns in Australia? License required or they're still toys or....

Cheers.

This is from Vic police website on "Airsoft (known as BB) air rifles"

Licensing & Regulation Division (LRD) will not provide permits to acquire air-soft rifles. This is on the basis that no genuine reason exists to own them, because there is no approved range in Victoria to undertake these war games. Their militaristic appearance also plays a part in their perceived undesirability.

LRD will not issue a B709A Import Permit for air-soft rifles, which is consistent with all other jurisdictions. Consequently, Australian Customs and Border Protection Services do not allow their importation at this time.

In short, no BB guns in Australia.

Geez really?

I assumed you could get one the same as an air rifle?

How stupid that a toy gun that shoots plastic pellets is completely illegal

Wait till they're 12 or whatever it is and get them a junior shoots license.

Get them a .22LR or an air rifle instead :)

Just get them some Nerf blasters instead, then mod the s**t out of them, can actually be a little fun. My cousins' and their kids get together and have little 'wars' whenever we can.

Get your fun in now.

Nerf guns are probably next to be banned because there is no "genuine reason" for having them
