How many is "too many" guns according to licensing dept?

Post by kritch » 28 Nov 2013, 11:10 am

Not that this will ever be problem for me, but I know a few of you guys have a lot more firearms than I'll ever have.

Has anyone ever had an application knocked back for having "too many" firearms?

There is no fixed limit as far as I can see from the firearms act, but no doubt someone at licensing and regs will get their nose out of joint at a certain point and try to knock you back because they decide don't "need" another rifle or whatever.

Anyone experienced such a thing?

I vaguely remember someone on here getting to about 30 before getting knocked back?

There isn't a limit specified in the firearms act.

In theory you can have has many as you like. In practice though, a few dozen and I suspect the powers that be would start to make it hard if not impossible for you.

I remember reading on a forum of a guy who got knocked back for having too many of the same style of gun e.g. he already had 4 .308s and wanted a 5th and got knocked back

In theory yes, in practice...

As above, plenty of people getting knocked back ones they have "enough" of the same calibre.

Depends on whether or not you get a reasonable guy at L&R who picks up your application or you get the guy with a stick up his ass.
