transferring firearm from QLD to NSW

Post by 308cool » 05 Apr 2017, 11:49 am

Hi,
my uncle is giving me a .22 he bought for me when I was younger and often went to his farm shooting. Now I have my full licence and everything, he is going to give me the gun. I sent in my PTA, but was wondering what he needs to do? Does all he have to do is take the gun to a dealership and then they will send it to a dealership near me and then the paperwork gets done on my end? I've never done this before so any help is greatly appreciated. He is in QLD and I'm in NSW.
Cheers

You have answered your own question. Yes..!!!

Give him the details of your dealer and that's where his dealer will send it.

Hope it all runs smoothly for you, as it should.

Just be aware that there might be a small delay from the day your NSW Dealer receives the rifle as it has to be registered in NSW from QLD then transferred to you. From the few I have done some the same day but others the next day or two. Depends on how busy NSW FAR are at the time.

It will be a great feeling actually owning something you used many years ago, you should be proud. Enjoy.

yep going thru this myself.

can confirm thats the process. so your nsw dealer does the paper work basically.

you will pay two sets of dealers fees plus transport.

if you are both ssaa members you can transfer via the club for free (except for transport costs)

Recently bought a Ruger 243 from a private Queensland seller (I live in Victoria) and there was no problem It has to be sent but a registered firearms seller to a registered firearms seller in Victoria. There is a transfer fee , I think it was about $50 but there is no problem.
