Do you need a licence to purchase a magazine?

Post by dpskipper » 28 Jun 2017, 12:33 pm

A mate of mine from Vic wants to purchase a Lucky 13 10 round remington mag for his mate as a present. Problem is he does not have a license, and asked me if it was legal for him to just stroll into his LGS and pay for the mag, then walk out. I don't know, so i figured i'll ask here.

I have bought mags online without anyone requesting licence numbers. Based on this I think it's all good but that's no guarantee.

One thing is sure, the LGS will soon let him know if he can buy it or not.

In Victoria I don't _think_ a magazine is restricted.
Best bet is to ring Firearms and ask them.
I bought one from SA and they wanted my licence details, but that might've been more to do with it being interstate.
When I buy mags from QLD they want my licence as it's a "firearm part". When I buy them via Brownells they don't ask, and they're in ACT.
Or he can simply pay for it and then send his mate in to pick it up.

Cheers for the replies guys. My mate wants it to be a little secret and give It to him next time they go for a shoot. Glad to know there will be no fuss.

Yeah, my friend in Melb goes shooting occasionally with a neighbour who is a really genuine salt of the earth bloke, so he wants to get him a mag to say "thanks".
