Victoria Firearm Regulations 2008 Sunset Clause?

I just noticed this at the end of the Regulations.
Anybody have a clue what it might mean?
Ten years is getting very close now.

Yes, most legislation has a sunset of 10 years.
Just means it is up for a full review. But it could take a year or more before the politicians get around to it.

PS. regulations could sunset on the same date if you check.

So, if they forget to re-enact it these regs would simply disappear?

That will not happen. Systems will be in place to prevent that happening.

In theory though is that what it means?

If there was a a set of regulations and the sunset date did somehow pass, they would all no longer be law?

That's what happened in the US with the '94 Assault Weapons Ban - upon sunset it just went away.

Stuff like this doesn't get forgotten about. Acts must be passed in both houses of parliament. But regs are just written and put in place by the elected government. So they just copy paste and change the date. Then reissue issue. But there is usually a review process too.
