You guys should be watching 4 Corners tonight. Big brother really is watching. They will soon be revording your voice using your mobile when you buy ammo. I joke not.

Well, let me put a different hat on... I know I have an inspection coming up. I go and drop that 8kg worth of powder and few bricks of ammo in my bedroom. And pop them back after the inspection. You dig? They are coming to inspect storage, that's not a search warrant to roam around the house. Hence, I am not sure how this can be enforced without full shop cooperation.

You use Android or iPhone? You give voice commands? Well, guess what they both have your voice on record. I am not sure about Apple, how to delete that. With Google, check this out (make sure you are logged in as yourself to google):

Yeah, old news fella :) ATO does voice verification too... Also, it can be faked.

I think what you have is probably counted more towards small artillery, than small arms

With good reason the death sentence was taken from the law makers that abused the law. You would be getting hung for the most meager reasons by now

"In Australia my voice is my Passport"....You got to love the ATO, you do the voice verification then still have to do another round of verification.

I understand and that would be my strategy as well. being on a farm there are more hiding places too if you have warning and could be bothered. The other point to this and this strategy is the it is turning you (forcing you to a point) from being a LAFO to a potential criminal.

Yep, so don't be a criminal and don't stockpile more ammo than you need I guess. I know it's f***ed up. Completely, but those are the two options based on this thread. I mean, there's not much else to add here...

Tiger650, I already have a chip... It's recording everything that's being said here and I have no control over it. It's been implanted during my last abduction by an experimental craft, programmed to scan certain brain waves. In fact, this is being typed against my will, I am trying to resist but my fingers are just moving on their own. At this stage, I think the revolutionaries have hacked the system and took control of the chip and my actions. Please send help, bring foil. We need a lot of foil. And a donkey.

A cashless society seems like a lot of trouble to institute without a motive ?
If you think the people who run this circus have only taxation in mind you are engagingly naive, just the sort of "client" they want.
What do you think is the logic behind importing savages to attack us ?
My view is that this is being done to justify increased "management" of society as a whole via imposing universal restrictions on personal freedom and privacy, political correctness dictates that we as individuals cannot criticise lest we be called some sort of new age swearword "xxxxist"
Think about it, we have a demonstrably alien and hateful religion blossoming in Australia and any who dare speak out are attacked as racist ! WTF !
Tony Abbot quite fairly got stuck into a dishonest Socialist Shrew and was screeched at for being a "Misogynist", to great applause from people who produce nothing but mischief and consume much produced by others.
Maybe you should hit the books, I would suggest Orwell's 1984 as a primer, that would be double plus ungood but may pry your eyes open just a small bit.
I have been around for 62 years and seen the place change from where a couple of barefoot 8 yo boys could disappear from home on Saturday morning and explore Sydney on the strength of a 10c train ticket, always home before dark of course.
Now the majority of parents are so s#it frightened of predators that they will drive their kids half a mile to school.
I wonder that since we pay record levels of taxation why that is ?
I hope the above is not lost on you, if so you have nothing but my disdain, perhaps some will understand.

Oh gawd... here we go again.

The only thing i have to say to this entire load of codswallop is that crime rates are in real terms lower now than they were back when you were that kid with no shoes and a train ticket. The only reason people are so scared about crime is because we are constantly told how bad it is by the media and paranoid delusional freaks. Kids would actually, in all probability, be safer to roam alone now than back 50 years ago, it is just not perceived to be the case, which is why kids today are so mollycoddled. 50 years ago, there could have been a dozen murders 5 suburbs over and peoples worlds were so small and information moved so slowly you would never hear about it and so live in a false sense of security. No it is the polar opposite. You hear more reports about fewer crimes (per capita and in actual incidents in many cases) but because there are so many reports it seems that there are more crimes. Don't get your info from 3AW or your chronies over shanties at the bowls club; look up the facts on Australian Institute of Criminology and Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Fear is the basic tool of control and the media uses it well. If you cant see that then you have my undying disdain and sympathy, as you so kindly put it.

Back on topic: my answer is NOT ENOUGH! :P

Have to stock up on 22lr and do some serious reloading sessions. Need more primers and 7-08 bullets. Got plenty of 224 bullets but only a handful of cartridges left loaded.

Actually, i haven't shot much for a couple of months and went into the paddock to confirm sights for some planned pest control an i completely sucked! I need to practice. Maybe i'll just put a brick through the 22lr for fun and games. I've been known to go through 1000 22lr a week when i'm concentrating of working on better technique so i could easily justify keeping many thousands on hand if i had the cash and the storage. Will have to start keeping all my targets in case i ever have to prove my needs. Plus f-class, 24 rounds a week, minimum for 8 months of the year is around 770rounds, plus i could easily shoot 30 wallabies a week if i put my mind to it.......

juststarting wrote:I don't see how this could ever be enforced unless stores keep track of it and send it somewhere for "big data" processing as they said in the article. This is a mammoth task, without proper systems... And when or more likely 'if' you get an inspection, well, you know, you may actually let your friend borrow those 4kg cans of powder or a box of ammo, because they asked you for it... I just don't see how this could be enforced. And then you have ambiguity on - what's reasonable? And is it per rifle or in general. Per rifle, well most share primers and powders, so looking at it with equal distribution is a bit weird too, assuming those who stockpile actually do it coincidentally due to lots of guns. This is just weird.

...and then there's always an ammo collectors licence. ROFL

Unfortunately, I doubt you'll get a whole lot of say in how much ammo is reasonable for you.
For technical and political reasons it might be unenforceable for now.
Problem is, the new regs, even if unenforceable for the time being, push the goal posts further along the route of greater control. They make it easier to propose more meaningful ammo restrictions or an ammo registry, which is something that has been proposed in NSW at least.
Restrictions on ammo sales today could make it easier for the police to tell LAFO's to submit to house searches tomorrow, for example.
Why not? What are you gonna do? Either agree to it or stop shooting. That's what the FAR's are for-control of you.
You've already agreed to allow cops into your home- they're part way to being in a situation in which they're going through all your belongings.
BTW, ammo limits were part of the original plan for the new gun laws back in 1996. I can't remember off hand precisely, but I have posted a link in another thread of parliamentary discussions on this.
