Importing magazines from the USA?

Post by DrewRoss » 16 Aug 2017, 7:37 pm

Hi guys,

Can I get magazines for a 308 bolt action from the US? Its a private sale, not from a dealer. They are original factory parts that y legal here...

Technically you'll need a B709 import permit but you can roll the dice and see if they get through. Worse case is they get seized and then you do the B709 and pay the customs collection fee + any other handling charges.

Need an import permit.
Or get it through Brownells.com.au as they have the permits in place already. I've bought maybe ten mags via Brownells.

When they grabbed mine they said I could try putting in a permit but it wouldn't be okayed. Permit needs to be in place before ordering it.

You just put in your order and the rest of done via them? That's handy.

Yep, just order it like you would anything else. It spends a few weeks in Customs and then comes to my door.
The AU portal is not good at determining what is legal here though. If you want something you know is legal (like my folding stock adapter), and it's on Brownells.com US site, just message Bruce and he'll sort it.

Smart move by them.

I'm sure all the permit/import crap puts a lot of people off doing it themselves.
