Bulk ammo storage individually with 22lr

Questions about Queensland gun and ammunition laws. QLD Weapons Act 1990.

Bulk ammo storage individually with 22lr

Post by drizo » 20 Aug 2017, 7:16 pm

In QLD the law says: "You must store small arms ammunition (SAA) in either its original packaging, or packaging or containers designed to protect the ammunition individually"

What happens if you buy something like the remington bucket of bullets and you want to take a few hundred to the range, or store some in other containers because the bucket wont easily lock up.. ?

G'day drizo,
If your going to the range, you are "carrying or using" not "storing". Use an MTM box, or a zip-lok bag, or an old jam tin, whatever suits your needs to keep the ammo together. For actual storage, the original container, in this case, is a commercially available white plastic bucket made in Australia by NCI, that come in a range of sizes from 500ml to 20L. Buy a couple of smaller ones and you are using the original "type" of packaging which must comply with the intent of the Law, Cheers,

Yeah, I'm from Victoria. But sounds like a very minor issue. Let's face it if you get pulled over and it's in a locked box that is compliant would the average cop have even the slightest clue? Put them in a container and then in the ammo box and go back to sleep.
The other thing.. In 44 years of firearm ownership never been pulled over in the car and asked for my license, guns or see ammo. Only for licence 3 or 4 times during duck opening. Storm in a teacup.

PS never asked to see ammo or firearms.

Edit for clarification only.

Why not just save some plastic boxes from more expensive ammo or grab some from the bin at the range? They are designed to protect individual rounds.
I'm in Vic too and have had a firearms license before I had a drivers, and have never been asked to show Guns or Ammo on the road.

A tuppawear container should be fine to use or empty ammo boxes someone through out.

To me it is pretty clear? Must be in original packaging ie the bucket it came in, otherwise buy some ammo boxes where by the cartridges are protected individually.

They sell cases for this the same as 243 etc

Maybe just a less conspicuous label could be good.
