2 people one safe allowed?

Post by Conallin24 » 23 Aug 2017, 8:48 pm

Hi guys, mum and her partner are going for a nsw Cat A/B license. They have the same address, can they share a safe or do they need to get 2?

You can share a safe. As long as the storage address is the same as on the Firearms Registry paperwork and they fit in the safe you're sweet.

Same here everyone who has access to the firearms must be licensed for the firearms in the safe.

Which I assume is not the same as everywhere else in Australia seeing WA requires an individual rifle to be licenced to an individual shooter???

The rest of Australia requires a shooter to be licenced for a category of firearms only. So if you are A/B licenced you can access a safe with any A/B firearm in it.

So, what happens in WA if you only have 223 & 22lr on your licence but there is a 300wm in the safe???

Genuine question.

A.C.T has the same " licenced to the shooter rule". If you want to borrow your mates gun, it has to be put on your licence as well.

Most people would store their firearms in their own safes. So as an A/B licence holder I can go in someone elses safe?? Because we are on private property only when we are on the property any one can use our gear and target shooting and stuff is fine.I am sure the state forest hunting is managed a bit different

My friends and I live in different apartments. Landlord refused my safe install request.
One of my friend owns his apt and had a safe installed. Now, 6 people is putting guns in his safe....

Okay so the thread been necroed by someone else, so...

Gamerancher, say what?! So if I want to drop by your place, pick up a rifle and go shooting with it... I need to add the actual rifle to my registry or something? Or do you mean, both people need to be registered for the same class of rifle?

In WA.

you would need to have that specific rifle on your licence. i.e. cannot 'borrow' same class/calibre.

it is rather impractical.

You can borrow it while in company with the owner, but you can't have sole possession of it if it's not listed on your licence.

You can't possess a firearm in ACT unless it's licenced to an ACT licence holder, or you are attending a specific competition using those firearms.
So my brother can leave his rifles with me, but he can't take mine home with him unless we have them added to his licence. We're still wondering how to go about that.
