Pistol Safe Opinions - Hunt Pro HP1 vs Spika SP

Post by chewbacca » 09 Sep 2017, 7:00 am

Hi All

I am in the process of buying a "small" pistol safe and I have not been able to find any reviews on the 2 safes that I am interested in: Hunter HP1 and Spika Digital Pistol Safe (SP)

They are both about the same price but am unsure of how reliable or how good the quality of the Spika safe is.

I do not want to end up with a cheap chinese safe that has been rebranded Spika and to go through all the issues of a cheap chinese safe such as being susceptible to unlocking during the bed drop test.

Does anyone know much about the Spika SP? I guess for simplicity, the HP1 could be a better option but I do like buy gadgets and am more partial towards the electronic keypad.

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Drop test?

Surely it needs to be attached to the building doesn't it?

What I am try to say is that if a safe popes open on a drop test, surely then the locks must be of very poor quality?

With safes you get what you pay for. Look at the safes cash rating to get an idea of how 'safe'it is.

I am pretty sure the Spika is Australian made.

Spika safes are made in China under guidance and regulations laid down by Spika. This is true too for Lokaway. As far as I know CMI are the only Made in Australia Safes.
But what about the Electronic combo vs key lock?

Me too.

I believe some key pad types are easy to get around. Try googling break into key pad safe or something along those lines.

Thanks. I think I'll end up getting 2 x key safes.

Does anyone know if there are any "regulations" regarding location of keys of safe?

Not accessible by unauthorised/unlicensed people. There is only so much you can do, but the 'reasonable man' policy is put into play.

Take 'reasonable' steps to ensure they will not be accessed by people who shouldn't. There are no hard and fast rules.

Is the kitchen drawer, that the missus and kids go into regularly, a reasonable hiding spot?

Or somewhere discreet and difficult to stumble on accidentally perhaps....

Wouldn't go with either.

Try Chubb. They make a number of smaller pistol safes, made in Australia with a key lock.

Now Im confused. Many have told me that the electronic key pads have come a long way and are extremely reliable so that would be better than having to use keys :(

You always have the key backup for the pad ones if you're worried.

I wouldn't be though. They make truckloads of them, there's always a few people on the net saying anything is no good.

Wouldn't worry
