I've always wondered, how do you guys retrieve the bird? For example, if I wanted to give it a go and do my tests, etc. I have no intentions of owning a retriever or any dog for duck hunting anyway. And my current dog would be like, no mofo, you swim! Also, I don't own a boat. I am sure a lot of you are like that too, so how do you retrieve a bird? Fishing rod? Need a boat? Always been interested, but never got a solid answer.

Shoot the shallow swamps, so just wade out. Or a canoe. They often fall on the shore anyway.

What old bloke said.
Effective range is well within 50m for most people so you never have to go far.
If it lands dead I just leave it untill I am done shooting for the morning.

Easiest is shooting on the rice as the bays are small and shallow.
I would suggest everyone give the rice a go at least once even if they are only a bit interested, in a good year you will have a ball, plus many properties have good spotlighing options for rabbits and foxes etc, also networking for access to other properties becomes super easy
