Liberty SafElert

Questions about Tasmanian fun and ammunition laws. Tasmanian Firearms Act 1996.

Liberty SafElert

Post by Joffa » 11 Feb 2018, 11:41 am

Hi Guys,

After years of not having a licence or firearms, I’ve decided to jump back into to forfill that itch that’s been bugging me for years to shoot again.

Since I last had firearms the storage laws (in Tassie at least) have changed.

I apparently now need an electronic deterrent or detection device for my safe for Cat H.

Has anyone got the Liberty SafElert?
Is it worth the investment?
Does anyone have any other genius ideas for this requirement?

Thanks for any help!

See you posted on the 11th - if nobody has posted since then, it's probably not because they dislike you, it's probably because they don't have any experience with what you're asking ....

Yeah I figured as much!
Thanks for looking out for my feelings though
After finally managing to order one into Australia from the US, I can see why probably no one here has one!
I’ll put up a review post of it once I’ve got it installed.
There’s a gap in the market here for something like it though with the new storage requirements!

Yeah it’s a monitored alarm gadget.
Monitors door opening, vibration, tampering, humidity, temperature.
sends a message to your phone if anything is out of the ordinary.
Also let’s you know when the battery is getting low.
Also tells you if it becomes disconnected to the wifi.

Seems like a very decent little all in one gadget and an easy work around with the new storage laws in Tassie.

Sounds like a good jigga. Have you asked Tas Police if it will cover your bases?

I haven’t asked them.
As far as my extensive research has gone, no one in Australia stocks them yet.
Maybe I’ll import them, if there any good
I’m sure it meets requirements though as it is a monitored digital detection device as it says in the very vague legislation.

I ordered one from Cabelas online hunting store. Was the only place I could easily find that ships outside of the US.

Okay,
So it’s arrived on the same day as my safe; Spika SCH1 (she’s a beaut).

Okay the Liberty SafElert review from my opinion:

Pros:
Does more or less what it’s supposed to do
Gives live reading of temperature, humidity, door activity and movement alerts ie tampering.
Notifications by email and their smart app
Can adjust notification parameters

Cons:
Not optimised for outside the US
No text message notifications available outside the US
Need to create a US iTunes account to download the app to get live notifications, then sign back into original account
Temperature measure in Fahrenheit not Celsius

On the whole I think it’s a great gadget, if the development team iron out the issues for customers outside the US, it will be a great easy option for everyone.
It is still a great option but requires a little bit of f...ing around to set up due to being in Australia at the moment!

Maybe there’s a business idea there for a safe monitoring system for some tech savvy member! I would but don’t have the time
