new cat B PTA in QLD - less questions?

Post by andreweden » 04 Mar 2018, 8:33 pm

QLD online system.
I just put in a new PTA for cat B (already have two cat B rifles).

I was surprised that the system didn't ask me for any supporting information.
I ticked the 'recreational shooting on rural lands'.
And it didn't ask me the 'why do you need this and why does not other weapon you currently have meet that requirement'.
I had supporting docs ready so not a huge deal.

I also noted that you cannot choose recreational shooting and target shooting as reasons. It is one or the other. I could have sworn you could both in the past.

Don't get me wrong - not complaining, but I am sure it asked me all that when put through my second cat B PTA. Or do I have a really good imagination filling in for my failing memory!?? :wtf:

perhaps they realised all the answers were the same so it was a silly question to ask

Yes the "need" question dropped off the process last year.
And yep, stay positive because they are going very slow on PTA's, I got a couple been there over two weeks with nothing yet.
Did ring at the end of last week and was told "yes they are there waiting for assessment, we are very busy at the moment, anything else I can help you with today?"

yes I have noticed too, last year only took normally 2-3 days to approve.
Recently, I submitted 2 PTAs and nothing yet.

Have you got your PTAs approved yet?

Looking back through some of my old PTAs, it has been that way for at least a year. And so much easier

From the drop-down list there are 3 options:-
1 - Recreational Shooting on Rural Lands
2 - Sports or Target Shooting
3 - Other. With this one you must explain "the need"

With 1, you could conceivably be asked to verify your authority to hunt on a particular property or in a specific area
Don't know if you have SSAA membership or not, but #2 covers their range/target shooting, and would equally validate you for participation in the CWM program, or Farmer Assist. Covers both bases, while #1 is a bit tighter on the limitations.
If you really want to go the #3 rabbit hole, best start making notes of your reason/s. Wouldn't want to use them too many times :!:

LOL same day as me. I guess the wait times have blown out a bit since a few weeks ago when people were reporting getting them back in a few days.
