3/4 oz loads in 410 guage

Any practilatiy to this fellas or just a novelty load. Im not much of a shotgunner but found a couple of threads on US forums of blokes playing around with shotloads this heavy.

You have used them Bigpete? what sort of components were you running or were they factory shells

Ar2205,cardboard over powder cards, ¾oz of shot. Was a ehole back so I don't know the powder charge but I would have extrapolated it from known data

Normally 1/2oz (219gn) or 11/16oz (301gn).

yes thats correct. The heaviest factory load I can find is the 5 x 000 buck load which at 70 grains a pellet means its 350 grains or 80% of an ounce, even heavier than 3/4. Hence which prompted me to see if anyone loads birdshot sizes etc that heavy as well. Id guess they would be fsirly low velocity loads.

410 is pretty underrated imo. Especially if you losd heavier shot. I've killed a ****** of rabbits and other pests including foxes with my old one

Just an update on this, I emailed ballisticproducts the shotgun superstore in the US and they said their smallbore manual has 3/4 oz loads in 3" hulls. I might download a copy and see how it looks. Components/powder availability will be the deciding factor. Not sure what is involved to import a specific wad from the US if we dont have them here. Even though they are just inert plastic I am guessing its going to be an import form?

I have ordered wads and stuff from Ballistic Products, but it was pre-covid so rules might've changed. Ask them if they still ship to Oz. You technically require an import permit for any cartridge components. Import permits are free in Vic. For experimenting just make your wads out of felt and the shotcup out of strips of card.
