Lever action shotguns reclassified in Victoria

"Lever-action shotguns with a five-round magazine will no longer be a Category A firearm and will now be officially classed as a Category B firearm. A lever-action shotgun with a magazine capacity greater than five rounds will be classed Category D."

https://ssaavic.com.au/lever-action-sho ... on-passed/

I was actually considering picking up an A110 a couple of weeks ago but ended up going for the ATA 686 instead.

So what happens with owners of lever action shotguns - do they need to retrospectively show genuine need for a cat B firearm?

Just read the relevant part of the bill. For firearms you already own, up to 5 rounds you can keep on a cat A license, more than 5 rounds you keep on a cat B license.

Sounds like they've brought it in line with qld and the other states that have changed the category. There will probably be some sort of grandfather/sunset clause on any pre existing owners. :drinks:
