I have german, japanese and italian shotties but the turkish ones have their place too.

I bought a W&S 2020K a few years back when they were getting unloaded at Claytons for $995 new. 20G, single trigger, IC and IM fixed chokes, 26" straight grip, case hardened boxlock receiver. I can almost fake it as a quaint English game gun. Fits me to a tee and each for snap shooting. If you see one cheap grab it. I've shot pheasants, partridges, quail, foxes and rabbits with it.

Once had an Akkar Churchill. Great little shotgun. A real scrub gun and a lot of fun.

I've now bought two.

A Pardus 12 gauge lever. List price $900 but the dealer let me have it for $250 without haggling. I think they were liquidating there stocks of these. Is it fun. I would say yeah and for $250 I definitely cant complain. But on the other side it has needed three major bits of work done to it. Firstly I had to file and polish allot of the internal moving parts so they fitted properly. I found the set screws were not actually setting because enough metal had not been removed to allow lockup. It then went back once to have its ejector upgraded (common fault and it seems mine missed its recall). Then around 12 months latter when the barrel and barrel extension separated. They did do this under warranty but then on return I received a letter stating they wouldn't ever look at my gun again.

I still have it. And I still use and enjoy it but its not as robust as id ideally like. I dream of the day a company like Marlin or Henry make a well designed and well built lever shotgun. But I doubt it will happen.

The second is a Zaffer 12 gauge coach gun. Single trigger 20 inch barrel rig. A literal load of fun. While its a fairly solid gun it too has several flaws. I picked it up for $660. And for that it came with the extractor rods looking like they were machined on a wood lathe with the person holding a bastard file to shape it. Plus it was quite rusty in this area. I cleaned this up but the machining is far from saveable.

On firing high recoil rounds the fore end will occasionally work loose as well. I believe the tolerances between the fore end latch and the barrel lug need polishing. Ill play with this one day and sort that out and it doesn't concern me.

These Turkish guns are cheap and cheery but they will also occasionally leave you frustrated. In between the ear to ear grins at the other end of the spectrum.

I think the biggest pet peeve of mine is the price for some of the lever and straight pull shotguns. Its frustrating when for allot less money most of the time you could get a budget well built pump gun that would work reliably. Someone in the middle must be making a good dollar bringing all the lever and straight pulls in due to our specific environment.

I really like the look of the hatsan escort and they are so cheap with real timber stock, but only in .22. If I had more space I might get one. Recently noticed turqua rifles in centreline which seem like really good value too. I don't know if anyone here has had experience with either.

A mate who has the pardus had it returned three times. On the other hand 2 people I know bought the dickinson T1000 and never had a problem and I quite liked they synethic stock version as a all weather type of shottie. Interestingly the dickinson also made the W&S 2020K under contract and the quality for the price is excellent.

You can look on their website and swear it was the same model.

I’ve got a Winchester SXP, made in Turkey.
Synthetic stock. Bought it from QLD, shipped down to Vic. Forget the exact price but it was around $900. Awesome fun gun so far, no problems yet and I don’t really expect any.

For $900 sounds like a bargain. I'd get a SXP waterfowl tomorrow for that price.

I've been impressed with the T1000. It doesn't come close to the feel or handling of a double-gun, but it is well made, and versatile.

I bought the standard 28" gun and the 20" barrel and pistol-grip stock off the Tactical model (another $250-odd dollars for both). I would instead recommend buying the Tactical model and order the 28" barrel and conventional buttstock separately. That gives you all the versatility, but also the rear sight and rail already installed. It takes less than a minute to swap barrels in the field with no tools. I had the 20" barrel (with .45 Colt adapter in it) on the gun when I went out after a fox, so I grabbed the 28" barrel as well and swapped them while walking out there, very easy to do.

Add some rifled chamber adapters in .22WMR and something like .44 Magnum and you have a gun that can do most things you might ask of it. The pic rail let's you swap a QD reflex sight on and off as required.

Adler straightpull, good thing and runs nicely. Avoid the mag-fed versions as they like to jam frequently due to the rimmed shells and the very large bearing surface inherent to a 12G shell causing more friction than the usual rifle round in a stacked mag.

On cheap guns that aren't necessarily Turkish, I picked up a used Stoeger Double Defense in the under-over variant. 20" barrels with pic rails on both sides, plus a rail up top for optics. I removed the rail on top and sight down the rib to the nice yellow hivis bead. Great gun, very usable and the blacked wood stock means its got a bit of weight and tones down the recoil, unlike some of the hollow plastic stuff.

I have a Pardus LAX-12 that I've only just run in, no major issues with it at all but I did spy a Adler b220 pistol grip 7shot. Thinking of swapping out but......dunno. Opinions?

Has anyone tried the new "Bushmeister" lever release 12ga, I think it's a Verney Carron knock off, even the release lever is at the same spot, which doesn't make sense to me.... Why can't they just put it on the left hand side (or make it ambidextrous) of the gun and shape in a way that one can press it with the thumb without changing grip.

When I was at Bathurst gunshow last month I saw a demo of some Turkish "button release", like it's Verney Carron but with a button on the fore end, where the thumb is, making it faster than a pump action and only fraction slower than a semi auto. But the price tag is like $2500, so I will pass, when it gets popular the price will drop, just like the Alder

Probably unwilling to invest the money in something that is likely to be banned overnight. The point of the lever-release systems is to slow them down so legislators let us have them, making them faster defeats that purpose.

Was the Adler ever expensive?

Price did somewhat come down, I remember when the A110 first came out they were sold out fast and some shops started to sell basic variants for $1200 (in 2016 money), now the same basic model can be had for 800 if you shop around in 2022.

So I am hoping the fore end button release model will be more popular thus cheaper to mass produced. At the end of the day, we did get to keep our A110s and the Savage lever release 22 has been around for a while too.

Be in the shops next week. $1k cheaper than the VC. There will be the cheaper VC knock off for under $1200 so I'm told will be available.

So I went to the dealer last weekend. The Bushmeister "looked" pretty well build but super light, fit and finish very decent for a $1000 job, pity it is not gas operated.. I paid deposit for a 20 inch model.... When I get it on will post review....

I saw the Buck master demo at Bathurst gunshow, think the button in the fore end is faster to engage (no moving grip), but more than twice as pricy.

And I have noticed that the level release is "lever action" in QLD and CAT A "bolt action" in NSW. They should make a NSW friendly 7 shot model (lever shotgun guns are capped to 5, not no limit for Bolt). The magazine fixture design prevents a long tube from being installed. (NSW law says tube mag extension is illegal but nothing about a longer tube).

Managed to get a feel for the bushmeister today. I will say it's built well for the price. Was expecting a gritty action like the first Adler's but it was a silky smooth bolt like I'd felt on some of the better straightpulls like the sulun arms Benelli clone.

The 20" especially isn't heavy and is well weighted with good balance. Quite tempted to get one for pigs

After some more sleuthing around, I can confirm the bushmeister is a Benelli M1/M2 clone but with the essential addition of a lever operated interrupt mechanism. This should bode well for the gun as I predict it will be received by the shooting community with similar amounts of praise as the other Benelli clone on the market is (Sulun Arms Tac-12)

The (was once) proprietary inertia self loading mechanism that Benelli is famous for should make these guns quite reliable and low maintenance. Whats got me more excited though is the possibility of tricking these guns up with aftermarket parts. Theres a huge array of aftermarket parts for the Benelli family of shotguns, so will be watching this space closely to see what fits. After playing with the gun for around an hour at the gun store, I am already thinking off an enlarged bolt handle as a "must have" upgrade personally.

Watch this space fellas, shaping up like its going to be great :drinks:

Picked up my 28 inch wood buckmeister today. I am a lefty so put in the shim to change the cast as well as one to increase the stock drop. Great fit now. Gun is made by Ozkanlar and seems well made. Activating the lever with my left thumb (smallish hands) is not as good as a right handed person. Have to move my hand up the pistol grip a bit. But still pretty good. Gun overall fells a bit like the Benelli M2 I use when I go to NZ for ducks. Barrel Grey coating seems to mark a little bit. Might use some camo tape when hunting.
Overall very happy with it. Try it out next week.
