G'day everyone, long time observer here but never posted myself.

My knowledge of shotguns is limited, especially when heading into the clay target scene.

I inherited what I believe to be a 70s model Bentley SxS 12G. I've only ever put a few Field shells through it, but other than that, its not seen any work since I've had it.

I'm planning on heading down to the clay target club with a mate tomorrow night, my only issue is now I'm unsure of what ammo I should be looking at for a shotgun of this age, I doubt its been nitro proofed? I imagine I would have to stick to lead shot? I was planning on buying ammo there, but I've been informed they don't have ammo to suit a gun that's not nitro-proofed.

Does anyone have much knowledge on this shotgun and what something suitable would be?

Lastly I understand this is a field sxs but it should still make for some good fun out there, better shooting it than being in the safe!
Cheers

G'day Nic1995,
Your gun is absolutely nitro proofed, just about every gun since about 1940 has been. As for steel. all guns nitro proofed after 1954 will take steel.

Grab a box (or better yet a slab) of 1oz (28grams) target loads in 7.5 shot and you're good to go.
Listing your firearms is as good as a fingerprint.
