Front Door model. If it was a Side Door model it would be named J.P. Sauer & Sohn! Seriously though, these shotguns were not named as models but generically known as Model 8. The exact same gun, same factory, workers, finish etc could be named Gebr. Merkel, Simson-Suhl or J.P. Sauer according to manufacturing needs or market needs which led to the old joke that Merkels came out of the factory front door, Sauers' out the side door and Simsons out the back door. Yours is 1980 (380 on the flats) and Standard Pressure proofed for 2 3/4 shells, Cheers.

March 1980, and a bloody good solid gun that will last a lifetime, or more.
I have seen one I sold to a very good gunsmith, that was made into an absolutely beautiful double rifle chambered in 500 Nitro Express.
