Hi guys, Looking at my first 12g and interested in your thoughts...
Just want a cheap (ish) 12g for 90% trap/skeet and 10% hunting
So far looking at ...

AKKAR CHURCHILL 12G 30INCH SPORTER EJECTOR
http://www.abelasgunshop.com.au/firearm ... -hand.html
$975 from hpgs

or

Webley & Scott WS912K Sporter 12G 30in barrel
http://webleyandscott.com/shop/proddeta ... WS912S30WC
$850 from hpgs or $800 from abela's

Any of you guys had experiences with these make/models?

I've had a few recommendations on the Akkar so far ;-), but heard nothing about the webley..

as you know I have the Akkar but i got the 20" 30" combo as they didn't have the 30" model in stock at the time, the special was $1080, good value if you think you'd ever use the two sets of barrels. they come with 7 chokes, but 3 of them are IC

sorry i haven't used the W&S

I have a Akkar & a Stevens both made in Turkey. The Webly is also Turkish. Both have had misfires, or firing both barrels at once. No problem fixed under warranty.

But next time I will buy a second hand Baretta/Browning etc. they are just better made.

First two shells out of my Akkar top barrel had light strikes but that was cheap trap ammo. Switched to winchester and I've put a brick through it without and problems. I put it down to the cheaper shells.

Well, did some more research online and it seems that akkar has the 'less problem' factor.

Quite a few problems over the years from w&s, but far less so for akkar.

Soooo, decision made... 30" akkar. pta in this week, and then off to the local..

looking fwd to giving it a workout at Mudgee!!

actually, truth be told mate, my trap skills are freaking horrible... one of the reasons i'm getting one!!.. i feel the need to master it ;-)

i'll have to do some serious practice over the coming month or two so i don't embarrass myself too badly!!

I'm the same, too much rifle shooting has made me a very ordinary shotgunner. I shot there a little bit a few years ago but mainly skeet, and to be honest I rarely hit one

I'm looking at joining Cecil park clay target club so I can go practice and perhaps get some coaching. I'd be interested to hear if any one here on the forum is a member there.

Edit: PS were working of some borrowing some auto throwers again and setting up floodlights to make night shotgun an option

 I was thinking exactly the same! we should try get a 241 deal !

I spoke to Ben from CPCTC the other day. Very nice chap who i think is the president of CPCTC. He does lessons for $75 for 2 hours. very reasonably priced.

So i plan to take some lessons with him once i have my SG in hand (should get it this week).

I told him of my recent trip out to the trap range at menai... my shot take was $25%... my wife's was take was 75%.. i told him that this must improve after my lessons or my manhood will be in question...

Please note... the wife worked at a SG range as a child... so really... it's very unfair!

Hi, I also have the akkar combo, and two mates bought the w&s. We got them as spotlighters. As we didn't want to use our high grade Brownings.

That said we respect our guns we didn't buy them to knock around. Also where we go spotlighting we put a s**t load of rounds through.

We have that many rabbits etc, we let fly as quickly as we can reload. I have found both brands to be equal so far.

The akkar is a heavy gun compared to the webly. Akkar comes with more chokes. I'd say shoulder both.

Probably for longevity id spend a bit more and get a mirokou if getting in to clays. It's not about shooting better it's about life span if doing a s**t load of clays.

Some of their top ones I almost wouldn't want to touch.

My LGS has a B25 up on the wall which looks amazing. A neat $22,000 if you want it :?

I'd be afraid to use the thing

Got the W&S. nothing against the akkar, the W&S just felt like a better fit for me personally and after more research i couldn't see any real problems in the last couple of years.

I put 150 rounds through it tonight and it felt great. a few clay pigeons will never live another day... but dam it... a lot of them got away!!

Somewhere there's a whole dam flock of clays just laughing their a** off at me.

No fault of the firearm.. just my crappy trap skills!

It's going to be a slow learning exercise to break away from my rifle habits!

Haha mate you'll be alright! Bring it up to Mudgee next time and I'll give you the basics(which i give everyone)

Shotgunning is more about instinct than anything else i reckon. that's why fitment is the number one thing when purchasing a shotty.

I'm not great, not even close, But if i can try and help i will!

Cheers,

couldn't resist, went out again today, this time to cecil park.

i think i'm onto something.... i stopped thinking about it and the strike rate went up a little...

after almost 300 rounds through the W&S i can say i am definitely pleased with my decision.

The idea of a shotgun is growing on me I must say.

Not something I'm going to spend big money on though. If anything I reckon I'll end up getting some second hand pellet chucker for a few hundred bucks.

I have something like a little side-by-side coach gun in mind.

Just had half a dozen bills rock up this week though so that's killed the 'fun fund' for a while though. :(
