Shooting an expensive shotgun (Blaser F3 shotgun)

Post by mikor » 16 Jun 2014, 7:04 pm

Hi guys,

Looking at shotguns for fun :D

Got an ad for a $600 Stoger, a $3,000 Miroku and an $18,000 Blaser F3 Barinesse.

$18,000! That's some reeeal money for a gun!

Anyone fired something this expensive? Not that I'll ever buy one but how different was it than a cheaper option?

:?: :)

Shotguns aren't really my thing so this isn't an aficionado's opinion, but...

I've shot a $15k shotgun before, felt much the same as the $3,000 one or two I've pawed at in store.

I can't even remember what make it was

Didn't leave much of an impression I guess.

Clayton have a $46,000 Browning for sale at the moment, Lorgar.

Maybe that's enough to impress you

As far as shotguns go I think the problem is more lack of interest than lack of impressiveness for me

Lost cause I'm afraid.

The other day I shot an Akkar and an expensive Beretta at clays. The Akkar Churchill felt better than the Beretta!!

The difference lies in parts and labour cost. The F3 Blaser Baronesse is at the top end of Blaser's F3 line. The F3 is a lovely firearm but you can opt to have that gun in a much cheaper version. Its a bit like buying a car, the Baronesse is the one with the sunroof and leather trim. Doesn't go any faster, just looks nice.

When you buy a Baronesse you get some pretty special stuff. 500 year old specially selected grade 10 Turkish Walnut, engraved side plates that took some bloke a year to complete and its a special order and made to fit. It doesn't come off the shelf. That costs money...big money.

Additionally, for those that find the cheaper guns handle better than the more expensive ones it is simply a matter of fit. We are not all the same but the cheap guns are made to fit the average and that's why so many people pick up the cheap gun and go "hey that feels nice". It's not until you have the thing crafted for you and only you that you appreciate the fit and feel.
Now that's been said, who's coming for a shot?

Expensive is a funny concept , because what is regarded as expensive to one person maybe cheap to another.

It all depends on your circumstances and desires.

I personally am a fan of Pride of Ownership, and my firearms may be considered expensive to some people.

I have no problem with someone shooting a $300 shotgun ( I've owned those guns myself in the past ) just like I have no issues with someone having a $30,000 gun.

Each to their own , as long as they are happy and have hopefully achieved Pride of Ownership.

I'm with you to a point.

At some point though you'd have to agree the amount of money people spend on things is getting out of control.

A very knowledgable man years ago advised me to stop worrying myself about how other people spend their money .
He said .
" Smoke and Mirrors is the underlying truth to many people's possession in our current world .
If you want it and can afford it , buy it , if you can't , don't . If you can't afford it and someone else can then instead of being envious you should be inquisitive . Learn how they did it " .

The biggest problem with getting a hugely expensive gun is that you would always be too worried about damaging it to enjoy using it. I can't imagine the horror if I bought a $5000+ gun and dropped it on the way from the shop to the car :(

Same for cars.

You see the guys who have to park in the very front of the restaurant so they can keep an eye on the car, and give a valet guy at a hotel a lecture about taking care of it and that stuff.

They're paying for stress basically
