Akkar 3 Hog Stopper - Feedback wanted

Post by salate » 09 Dec 2014, 1:45 pm

Hi guys,

After some opinions on the Akkar 3 Hog Stopper triple barrel.

How does it compare to similar prices twin options. They're going for about $1,800 at the moment new.

Is quality as good or does it suffer a little to have the 3rd barrel 'feature'?

Thanks all.

The triple barrel is a hook, no doubt, and not that much of an edge IMO.

We've been getting by with single and double barrels for 100+ years after all.

That said, by all reports their a quality shotgun and are an affordable price point.

The one drawback i see in the reports I've read is the there is no barrel selector - can't choose which barrel to fire 1st.

other than that the reviews are favorable.

Heavy... if I wanted more than 2 shots in a cat. A B , 12 gauge I'd go for a lever action or a bolt action.

one thing is for sure..... theyre 50% better than a double!! :D

Iess the only draw backs as the potential extra mass and bulk, plus I like ejectors, else, you have an extra shot there. nothing wrong with that.

Initially I wasnt really interested, but I'm liking the idea of a triple 20inch for plinking....and a spot of hunting

edit to add: they apparently come in 18.5 inch!! (not for Aus though I understand)

a pic for the thread:

This would be as good as and more reliable than a semi auto if you could rig up some kind of three shell speed loader and sling. Imagine if you could trip all three tubes at once! ouch.

I saw in the video for the extractors the shells come out at about 3 heights each.

Is that deliberate so you can get a grip on each one in order? Or just random how far they eject?

I have one in 20" configuration, impressed with quality and reliability, great for shooting geese as well as pigs.

Lucky chance in the video.

Each just slide out a little further than the next. They're pretty smooth from what I've seen, a shake is enough to drop them all out without needing to touch them.
