Shotgun ID Help and valuation idea please?

Post by Eldanos » 06 Feb 2015, 9:13 pm

Hi everyone, new guy here:) I acquired this gun a few years ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it?
I guess from the stamps it was made in 1951, but cant find out much info on it's model name, if they're good guns, and value.

Unfortunately I need to sell it, because it doesn't seem to be the right fit for me.
Thanks in Advance!

If you look under the barrel mono block it should have some makers name or even on the side off the barrel or chamber area.
It has some similarities to French Side-by-Side Shotgun, D'Armes et Cycles de St. Etienne Manufacture.
And also a Fusil Robust made by the same people.

Very sweet little shotgun there, Beretta, Italian top gun model 408 or 409?. Good grade of wood too. I don't know much about old shotguns.

I love a good S X S, under and overs are just tools.

If the bores are in good nick it is worth upwards of $1500 to a few thousand, posibly more but it needs to be evaluated properly, this requires the services of someone who really knows what they are on about as some are quite valuable and some look like they should be valuable but aren't.

You can't value shotguns off pictures, it may be worth getting it fitted professionally and is often not as dear as you may think.

You've got yourself a nice, but well used, Beretta model 409, its stamped on the wood, 7th pic....

Looks like one of the firing pins needs a bit of attention...

does it lock up tight? any wobble....

Either way.... cant go wrong with a Beretta.... do it in style

No could be about it, I don't think anyone would seriously suggest otherwise.

It has Beretta stamped on it.

I shot an email off to someone who knows a bit about Berettas and if you write to the factory they will look up all the details. Like 1290 said it is a 409 so if you add the serial number after that they can track it.

Condition is everything with these older guns, if it is as good as it looks it will be worth money.

It would really be worth considering having it fitted to you.

Beautiful SxS there.

I'd at least see about getting it fitting before you move it along also.

If you're still going to be shooting a shotgun would be a shame to replace it with some generic off the shelf option if it was possible to gunsmith to the right fit.
