Damn, looking at all these shotties makes me jealous. Dad keeps saying shotguns are useless here aside from bank robberies and home defense, is he right?

there is not much that a shot gun cant take and you can shoot doves up to the largest game there is not much that a ounce of lead will not kill.

Agree...... from shooting the small feathery things with small shot through to big ass slugs...

Every shooter should have a shotty or 10, always in 12g, there is only one bore size right?? :D and they are great fun - only yesterday I took out the youngins with a mate to introduce to a life of shootin..... I worded him up and said there are 2 types when it comes to shooting for the first time - the type who wets his pants and hands the gun back, while the other who after the first shot develops a grin from ear to ear and want to go again...and again.....and again.

The newbie yesterday was hooked.
Nothing like to smell of burnt nitro in the air after a few rounds

Well, I talked again over getting a shotgun, still no. Arguement goes like this:

Too much lead going everywhere, makes a mess of what you are trying to shoot, too loud, low pressure, rifles are so much better, short range, e.t.c.

Somehow I do have to agree with him.

Seriously does he even have a beard?

Not anymore, just over 40 years of experience left with him. The only times he'd ever use one was for either trap/skeet or using rifled slugs for hunting razorback, even then it would be much more desirable to him to use a centerfire cartridge such as a .308 or a 30-30. Considering also he's owned and shot more firearms than the majority of what most shooters can get a hold of in today's Australia as well as a lot of people on this forum, I'd say he can have his opinion. Personally, I wouldn't mind a shotty, for sport and hunting, but that would just be my preference. He's always been in it for quick, clean, 1 shot kills, with doing his absolute best to save meat.

Also, in terms of hair, I'm not sure there is anything left :unknown:

Picked up this Winchester 37a today, for $50 coz it had no fore end, which I already had luckily.
On the way home we stopped into gunco super store for a sticky beak and found a Winchester 37 and a cooey 84, so I put in permits and will go up to Melbourne again during the week.
Once I pick those up I'll have the whole set, although I bet I can find some more like the sears N roebuck versions.

Nope I only paid $50 for that mod 37a and I had one of those cheap ass Boito's and I gave it away to make space for more of these.
My first shotgun was a Boito 410 s\b and I loved it as a kid.

Probably if was to get myself a shotgun (which as much as old man says are only good for bank robberies and home defense or pigs, which is his opinion) I'd get an under-over with 410 gauge on top or 12 gauge beneath or vice versa. Make a great snake killer instead of having to use a shovel or machete.

If you want a sub gauge look at a 20ga more useful than a 410 and much better bang for your buck, 410 is to expensive to feed for what it is and is s**t to reload.

Fair enough, and 20 gauge would be quieter over here than 12. There's neighbours on hillsides that would get all "TURN DOWN YA RACKET YA CRAZY ****" over me shooting off loads of rounds over and over.

Now if only I could legally get a display/ safe so i could hang all 5 together on the wall so i could look at them all the time.

....put together a not-easily-penetrable cabinet, cut out an inset in the door and replace with laminated glass, & Bobs your Auntie

you can only ask.....
consider the logic (yes, logic doesnt apply to firearm licensing) if the laminated ballistic glass is OK for banks :unknown:

Doesn't say in the VIC Act about windows that I can find.

Just "is constructed of hard wood or steel that is not easily penetrable; and" and on it goes.

Installing the window in a way it can't be kicked in is the trick I suppose.

Or I dunno.... I'm making s**t up here really cause who of us knows anything about ballistic glass. And I mean knows about it, not saw it on the internet

I wonder how the edge of a panel holds up against a crowbar?

Getting down to interpretations here which usually doesn't work in us shooters favour :(

If you had a wooden receptacle with a securely installed window you could reasonably argue that it is "constructed of hard wood or steel that is not easily penetrable". Especially if the window is small enough that you can't pass a firearm through it if it were broken.

I'd try and get something in writing from you firearm registry before I went ahead though.

Off the top of my head... Might be worth looking into collectors license and related security info? I vaguely recall something in there about storage of displayed firearms if you know what I mean.

Beretta? Nice looking gun.
Winchester Model 06 .22 Pump
Winchester Model 9422 .22WMR Lever, with scope
Marlin Model 1895 45-70 Government, Lever
3 shotguns, all 12 Ga, U/O, SKB, FEG (coach) and Fausti
maybe a Boito coach gun, just because I should have a SXS in the safe.
