Why are shotguns so expensive?

Double barrel, side by side, over-under, semi-automatic, straight-pull and lever action shotguns.

Like any craft with a long history and very few practitioners, a true artisan bespoke article is worth an absolute bomb. You pay a lot for the time, effort and dedication it takes to make a truely superb piece.

At the lower end of the 'good' guns, you pay for the reputation and the service that stands behind it. I'd like an nice shotgun for the artistry but all I really need is one that shoots more than 2 shots before reload!

Those who can afford, would probably say something about 'pride in ownership'.

I walked into a gun shop. I asked "what's the cheapest shotgun you have?"

I was shown a shotgun.

I then said, "thank you, please send a pta for one of those".

I can miss with any rifle, biotchez.

I've seen some firearms up around $800,000 from memory, fooked if I can see the value in it but I guess if you have that sort of $$ to spend then $$ aren't a major concern to you and you obviously want to own something unique and rare I guess.

$2600 is peanuts for a good shotgun.

But I'm not sure why you are talikng down expensive shotguns jus cos most of us could never afford one? I rekon it's cool that some companies like Purdey or Holland & Holland exist to make the really high end stuff. Those things are works of art and the build is perfect. If I had the dough I'd definitely invest in one, just like I'd invest in the work of a famous artist if I had the dough, or a ferrari F40 if I was rich and into cars. Stuff like that only goes up in value.

I'll bet your the sorta bloke that likes Gucci Handbags and Sunnies etc, over priced, over ranted and over here, but you are welcome to use em if it turns ya on. Me I wouldn't waste a heap of money even if I had it on the "Upmarket" stuff, it just doesn't do anything at all for me, I've got simple tastes and I'm more than fine with that. :D

Or if your tweed jacket , classy stud bred bird dog and ultra expensive H&H shotgun aren't enough to impress your mates , perhaps you could buy the Holland & Holland Range Rover package.
