Getting Allan Vaisham to take a look at it before you do anything is the best advice here.
If you're keeping it value is immaterial. I've got my Great Grandfather's sxs and though it has a value.....it's nothing compared to the sentimental value. Taught me with it when I was 10.
My son is named after him and it will go to him when I'm gone (or too old to shoot it).
Good luck.....but go carefully.

Mate if you've read the thread through you'd know that the shotgun is currently with Allan being restored. I should be able to pick it up this week sometime.

Size 4s. Actually I find that I do pretty well with 7½'s for most of my bird control shooting. 6s are even better. I rarely use anything over 4s these days. I find bigger shot seems to work better if you have a good tight choke. The crows I shot at I would've expected to die on the spot with a 28gm load of 7s out of my coach gun

I have used 5s for all my small game for years. Rabbits to ducks. No problem if I do my bit. 2s for foxes. Just a friendly tip, you gotta shoot straight. Lol
