Mossberg and Savage still make rifled bolt action 12g.

Is there any way to get shot to work properly through a rifled barrel yet?

I have a Harrington and Richardson (H&R) nice gun for the price, simple and reliable.
The dealer didn't speak much of Boito's.

Two years ago you could, don't know about now. I try to keep my guns clean and looked after even if they are cheap ones only fired about 70 shells. It is light so kicks a bit more then you expect when you fire it the first time, but nice gun.

i've got this habit of buying nice things like my beretta 686 SP1 which is my clay gun and i just don't have the heart to take it out bush and bash it up, singles are cheap ( yay ) and if it blows up, gets bent/broken then meh, ideally i'd be able to throw slugs out of it because they intrigue me

or i'd be all over a beretta s55

whats the go with chokes and slugs in a smooth bore anyway?

Good question but don't know. The clear solution (to me at least) is to buy one shotty with a rifled barrel and another with a smooth bore. That way you'd get double the shooting fun AND you get to really irritate Samantha, Phill, and Walter by buying more guns

Yep SB's tend to kick a little harder due to their lightness, not a bit issue if you put a decent butt pad on em, I used to have a couple of mouse pads glued to the butt of the Boito then upgraded that to a slip on pad as the kids wanted to have a go at shooting clays with it so figured I'd better find something a little more comfortable for them to use than the mouse pads :D

There does need to be a limit to keep the amount of accumulated space used in check, but in hindsight the existing limit may have been a little conservative.

I've doubled the message limit for members now.

The go is no problem at all. Rifled slugs are designed for smooth bore shotguns. I shoot rifled slugs out of my Beretta PB409 which has fixed full and 3/4 chokes with no drama. The shotguns that use a rifled barrel shoot a sabot slug which is a different animal a rifled slug.

A 'rifled slug' creates its own spiral / twist and a barrel with rifling, imparts trist upon the projectile.

Is this close to the money ?

This explains the rifled slug/sabot slug difference pretty well.

http://www.theboxotruth.com/the-box-o-t ... e-barrels/

We then must ask, “If the rifling does not spin the slug, then what causes the rifled slug to fly true?” The answer is that the slugs usually had a hollow base and they were heavier in the front than in the back, and flew straight for the same reason a dart flies true.

I always thought the grooves on a rifles slug were to create spin in flight but it appears the grooves are what makes them safe to shoot through choked barrels.

SB? bugger that, get a rifle/shotgun combo

I had a Beretta SB Vittoria and it was a nice gun but annoyed me because when you broke the action the barrel would drop right down and pinch your trigger hand.

single tend to be fixed chokes and normally full so slugs are probably not a good idea

The idea that slugs are bad or full choked barrels is myth.
