The idea that slugs are bad or full choked barrels is myth.

'Slug' barrels from all manufacturers are 'cylinder'.....not full choke. Why would they do that if full choke works fine?

Its plenty safe, ive shot plenty of slugs through full choked guns, but accuracy won't be as good with 3/4 or full choke as it can deform the slugs as they compress.

If you have a cheap shotgun you can always cut the choke off then no problems with chokes and accuracy, if you don't care about the gun.

Now there's an idea, the one i bought today is literally like 40"

According to everybody that has ever shot slugs through a full choked barrel. It's pretty obvious why slug guns are cylinder.. ie. why the hell would you choke a barrel designed to shoot a single projectile? No like it's produce a pattern

So for those following, i ended up getting a savage model 940, with a scerial number of.. 10 not 100 10, its like getting boot kicked in the shoulder with high brass buck shot but its the most fun you can have with your pants on i reckon

Upon giving it a thorough clean it seems to have a bit of rust in the bore, but it shot fine so nothing to really worry about.... yeah?

Not particularly AusTac, if it's light surface rust you're all good. However, if that rust soon turns to pitting, then the problems will follow.

I'd recommend scrubbing the bore with a light rust remover, such as Navel Jelly rust-remover to get rid of it. Then swab the bore plenty of times with a thick cloth wrapped over a brush to pick up the dissolved fragments.

Put a Tornado Brush through it and see if it really is, I thought the ol Boito has the same issue after I gave it a good clean, then my mate used one of his homemade Tornado Brushes and it was just wadding and other crap that was stubben to remove. I actually think the boito has Chrome lined bore.

That Savage looks a lot like the ol Boito before I removed the bluing and gave it a polish.

I first thought it was just rings of crap, so i got my 12 guage bronze brush out for the first time ( my other shotty is a clay gun and hardly fouls ) and cleaned the crap out of it, probably spent a solid hour trying to break those dark spots up, i'll invest in one of these tornado brushes and try again, it sure put a smile on my dial yesterday, if its bad hardcore pitting what should i expect? Exessive wad fouling?

For patches for the shottie I just use that Blue or Pink Chux cloth - comes in 10m or 20m rolls from memory and does a fine job or I use paper towel if I've run out of the chux, works ok but not as good as it tends to want to fall apart when the solvents on it compared to the chux.

Well can always remove surface rust by blasting it with lead if there's not to much fouling

Yeah anythings pretty much good enough for the ol smooth bores Petrols good for the chokes and WD40 does a great job cleaning them too as does Inox.

Yeah it'll be fine, I've got an old 37a that's pretty pitted in the barrel but it has shot fine like that since my grandad bought in the the 80's

From memory I think my mate put the tornado brush on a rod and then attached that to a drill and worked it in and out to get rid of whatever it was in the bore, was stuck pretty solid whatever it was but the tornado did the job.

Still yet to get a measurement, but put it this way it just fits with the butt pad scraping the carpet diagnal in a 18 gun safe lol,


And i looked up the brushes and was just thinking to myself how this contraption works, i would have thought thr steel rings would just mould around whatever was stuck

So has anyone bought a single barrel shotty new latelly? I've got the bug, and i love the stevens in this post but need something with a picatinny rail for a sight as per vic smoothbore laws but no matter where i ask no one seems to stock, h&r boito etc

New and old alike both are cool mate only chasing new because picatinny wasen't around when most of these things were made, theres a few savage 212's on oz guns but dayyyym they ain't cheap i know i can shoot with a bead... silly vic laws

Nothing seems cheap again after you learn how much bang for your buck you get out of a single barrel, lol!
The Mossbergs are pretty cheap, the 212 is rifled so thats where the money goes there, price a browning A-bolt in 12ga then the savage will look cheap.
There is a sportco mod. 81 on abused guns for a decent price today also.
I have a Mossberg maverick model 95 with a 4x scope on it you can play with when you come out.

Haha true that mate, and yeah i did just that, a-bolt is pricey, might have to shop around for the savage, not really bias eaither way, i've been eyeing of that sportco but i really prefer to handle before i buy, especially after my usedy mossberg experience last week, not a whole lot around at the moment

As for the fuss about single barrels, for me anyway, so reliable, cheap, light, easy to use, but kicks like a mule with magnum shells lol just so practical for what we can have.

I would buy an adler but i can see them not lasting long after the nfa

I usually take just a firearms out bush so i wouldn't mind something with a rail to cover my arse in deer territory if/when i get stopped by depi/police some day, could just say pigs but i dunno
