So, first shots with the second hand model 42 in 22wmr / .410 combination rifle I picked up last week. Fitted with a nikko stirling red dot in place of the polymer open sights.
I did a rough sighting in at 50m over a makeshift rest. The dot basically covered a 2" square at 50m. I pulled the first shot and the rest landed more or less in the same spot.
At 15 m the 2 1/2" shells centre on aiming point but the pattern is very sparse
The 3" shells hit low but there is definitely more chance of the pattern being effective.
I put a couple of the winchester PDX defenders through it. At 10m, it looks like all 3 discs went through one ragged hole. By 25 m they were all over the place.
I stuck up a 4" gong at 40m and had a few shots off-hand. Federal rifled slugs hit bang on with the 22wmr at this distance happy days.
The hammer has decided it doesn't want to engage properly at cocking now, seems to be ok if the trigger is pushed forward... I'm guessing someone tried to lighten the trigger. I'll get it back to the shop and see what they can sort out for me. Hopefully it's an easy fix as it's fun to shoot.
