First Time Gun Purchase - Adler or Pardus

Post by ThumbNT » 16 May 2018, 9:50 am

Yes i know this topic has been beaten to death (been lurking for a while now) and i am fully aware that many Pardus LAX12's have been sent back under warranty due to issue with them and the Adler seems to be the overall winner.

So quick questions, are there any other 16.5/18.5 lever actions in the market? not a particularly tall man standing at 5"11 and the longer barrel doesn't tickle my fancy. Also being able to lock the safety but still cycle the action/clear the tube is particularly attractive to me and is only the LAX12.

Also, any reports of the QC from Pardus? has it since been improved?

cheers! :)

My mates adler was great for the first 500-600 shells then it went to crap, I was almost a convert but at the end of the day you have to accept its a $700 shotgun, when you think that entry level bouble barrel shotguns worth buying are over $1k, and the adler has more moving parts...they just fall apart after a while.

You need browning or winchester start making them, but that wont happen.

I've got a Pardus LAX12. After 100 shells through it it loosened up. If you try cycle it slowly or without a decent amount of force behind it the shells wont eject. If you treat it like you are trying to break it, it works perfectly. Also looks great.

Although - new Impala spring assisted straight pull shotguns look absolutely fantastic and have heard their quality is much, much higher then adler/pardus. Maybe check those out.

Yes I have heard that well worn fact to counter the antis.
Im talking about today, no one serious has invested in the modern market for lever actions shotgun as there is no market, Australia is nothing when the rest of the world will buy pump actions.

I own a Pardus LAX12, I only get occasional ejection issue, but its more down to which brand of ammo i use, they are all pretty clunky in the leaver action department. Personally i prefer a double barrel its like having a semi automatic, and you can load pretty fast if you want.

having that second shot ready is super appealing, i must admit.

how does the Pardus kick? does it carry on much because the misses will be using it too and shes got no mass behind her.

i have 20 inch walnut LAX12 and kicks more then Alder, as Adler has more padding on stock, can put a butt pad on the back to solve it.
I've done 100 shells through mine and it took a couple of boxes to wear in. it prob plays up 1 in 15 but you can flick it out with your finger.
Pardus you have to crank down pretty hard to eject and load next shell, Alder is alot smother.
never used a straight pull, heard there better.
I just want a pump action to be honest, but the d*ckheads at be are retarded.

Which is the reason I bought mine. A 12g Double is a much better walk around proposition, and you could run sub caliber inserts for the Missus if needed. :allegedly:

i was hoping the pardus straight pull might be better at ejecting.

if they allow the verney carron into aus, its a lil pricey. same with the cmore (would buy, but not legal in NSW because it looks scary)... its expenno too.

any other options?

I have the exact same one. Took it out today, boy I forgot how much fun that gun is. Gave it an absolute spanking, probably 500 shells through it, performed great.

Oh forgot to mention, if the muzzle break / flash hider gets stuck on after some use (which it almost certainly will,) grab an allen key or medium screwdriver, slip it through both sides of the muzzle break and use the leverage to twist it off. DONT do what I did and try heat it up over the stove and then melt a cloth all over it forcing me to buy a new one at 80 bucks.

Is that just a Pardus they convert to straight pull and put their badge on? Looks so similar, the stock is literally an exact copy

They are going after a very specific market - "The SP-1MF is made right here in Australia for you, the Austrian shooter."

so it finally arrived and was approved. talk about long winded process, god damn...

No lie. the gun is pretty junky. scratches on the finish, poorly cut and fitted high vis site and ghost ring knock off. the ventilated barrel sleeve isnt flush or fitted with any care. It does feel solid and substantial, however its very clear that its an entry level arm dressed up.

mine however has zero issue with extraction or feeding from what i can tell.

time to start shopping for an XM12 starts ...... now!
