What are these rounds?

Post by bentaz » 12 Nov 2017, 3:02 pm

A mate of mine just bought an old freezer truck from a decest estate and found some old rounds in it behind the seat.
He is a shooter but only new and not very knowledgeable, he sent me a bunch of pics asking what I knew about them and I was able to ID a few, but there's some milsurp stuff that I thought you guys might be able to shed more light on.
First one looks like 30-06 to me.

I was thinking from 1953 but that's all I could guess.

.30-'06 or 8x57mm I'd say. Have you measured the bullet diameters?

G'day bentaz,
Your 1st cartridge is French 7.62 Nato, made by Societe Francaise des Munitions, Issy-les-Moulineaux. The 2nd, is WW2 US 30-06 link made by Des Moines Ordnance,
Cheers.

Now that you point it out, that vague blur does look like it could be "7.62" :-)

My highly honed powers of deduction lead me to believe it could be 7.62
