Hmm I like my 308.... cheap enough and the barrel will last a long while. I did my first shots with a cheater spec 65 creedmore yesterday. But still have a soft spot for the 308

Man that's a tough question! Today's fave is the .44-40 coz I won an off hand event with my 104 yo Winny '92 today, but I could just as easily say the .50-70, .40-65, .32-20 etc. I guess I really just like very old cartridges and the shootin irons that go with them. Modern calibers and modern rifles have their uses I suppose but they just dont make me moist!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Hmmm, not sure you can call it a cartridge,I'd say 50 cal flintlock.
But for a proper cartridge I'd say 12g. Not much you can't kill with one if you can actually hunt.

Is it called the man bun because it is only about 10 years old and hasn't been around for 100 years like 6.5x55?
I believe the .260 has only been around for 10 years longer than the 6.5Cm, and both cartridges were formed from necking down a parent case. Do you need a man bun to own a .260 also or is there another reason that the man bun is only applicable to the Creedmoor?

I don't have a favourite, but I have had great experiences with some.
I shoot more .22LR than anything else. I don't own anything else that I can spend a few hours sitting in a paddock and burn through 300rds, without feeling sore afterwards, or annoying my neighbours. Some of my centrefires I can shoot for similar cost as .22LR, but the recoil with heavy cast bullets adds up after a few-hundred rounds, even subsonic. And then I have to spend a few hours reloading them for next time.
I guess I like the 7mm-08 the most currently, but that can change quickly depending on what I'm doing.

.32-40, a great old cartridge.

"What the .32-40 lacks in velocity and energy it more than makes up for in accuracy. Many bench rest and Schuetzen records have been set with the .32-40. This has been accomplished using both black and smokeless powder behind cast bullets, breach seated, or fixed ammunition. In its heyday, some of the finest single shot target rifles of that era were chambered for the .32-40."

I love the good old 300wm, just because I can and screw the haters calling it a "compensation" calibre.
Yeh I know modern powders and projectiles mean for the average punter you can get other 30 cals to do pretty much the same thing up to a few hundred yards but hey up until recently I was driving a 40 year old Chrysler daily, yes my Hilux is better in almost every single way but much like my classic Winchester Model 70 in a classic calibre some things I appreciate for what they represent, not what they do.

The 6mm BR for me, accurate and fun to shoot. The 20 cals are also a favourite, you can shoot the 204 all day and pull off some great shots.

.303 British for me personally. Love the history, and I really enjoy shooting lee enfields. You're not Australian if you don't own a .303.

6.5x55 for mice to moose, 8-06 AI for up to black bear and 416 Taylor for everything else up to pachyderms.....I also have a 6.5x54 MS, a calibre which has taken pretty much everything on this planet.

P.S....NField, is that a cadet or 303 frame Martini ?

.243 for me as the all round go to calibre. Shot everything from rabbits to deer with it and never had an issue using it on pigs. I reckon anything hit with a 243 will not be having a good day and will hang around long enough for a follow up shot if needed.

A 303 SMLE is another beauty for the history and the ability to go a long way, a real long way. :)

45-70 is fun to shoot, that's for sure ! might be a bit big for rabbits, but the case is bigger than a 410, so loading shot would make it do everything

Except for the rifled barrel. But it's possible your specific rifle might shoot a usable pattern at very close ranges.

327 federal magnum (in a rifle) - 45,000 psi pressure ceiling, carbide dies ftw, enough punch to take down medium-skinned game, negligible recoil, cheap pills, load it up in a matching revolver... the list goes on

That a Nice Rifle

Bugger, now I'm going to have to be the one to point out that there is not a .303 frame Martini action, just large actions like mine that was made in 1872 as a Martini Henry then converted to Martini Enfield 303 around 1900. I think some 303's may have been made from scratch rather than converted, but they were still made on the large action.
