Hi guys,

Can someone tell the heaviest bullet you can probably fire in a 7mm-08 with a 1:9.5" twist barrel?

Thanks.

i have a tikka in 7-08, i have run 175gr SMK's in it quite well however i don't believe the case has enough capacity to run such heavy bullets, velocity for me was under 2400fps

the 168gr range is about perfect for still hitting hard and have good ballistics for longer range target work

175's going to be the ceiling, a little less in some cases even.

Sierra say their 175gr matchkings for .284 require a 1:8.5" twist barrel.

From memory it was loaded with 41.8gr of 2209 seated quite long as they were single loaded and not fed from the magazine

I shot my rams with that load but only used it at one match as they were bought for my .284win

There were a few 7-08 shooters using the 175's for rams but for me the 168's knocked them down fine, hitting them was my problem

I have some left over if some one would like to try a few I can put a dozen in a bag and post them out

That must have been right on full though, right? A little compression even?

That's near max load and with the long bullets your case density must have been just about perfect.

Thanks for replies all.

Thanks Releb for mentioning Sierra. A lot of their long bullets say the twist required on their website so that's a helpful resource.
