What to get next?

Post by Shootermick » 15 Feb 2019, 5:53 am

So, I’ve got a 223 and 22 mag in bolt action, a 22 and 30-30 in lever action and an under/over 12 gauge.
My question is, what should I get next? As I get the itch to add to the collection. Make? Model? Calibre? What am I missing that I need(?)!

Did you get any ideas from the what's missing thread? What do you like? What do you want to do with it? What is your budget?

One or more of 308, 7.5x55,7.62x54R, 30-06.
Then fill the gap between your 223 and the above with 243, 6.5x55, 260 rem or 6.5 manbun.
Then a 375H&H or 45/70 to get a start on the lighter side of big bore.

Front stuffer.... or a Sharps or a Rolling block in one of the old cartridges.

I was thinking in a rimfire maybe a 17 hmr, or in a centrefire a 6.5 creedmoor. 17 hmr probably doesn’t gain too much between a 22 mag and the 223 though.

Ya probably right about the 17hmr, 243 is also a nice alrounder centrefire .All depends on what you’re interested in I guess and what game you shoot

Oops forgot the front stuffer. Need a 58cal percussion, then a 45/50cal. Then a flintlock (69 or 75 cal)

Once you’ve got that, a sharps, rolling block or high wall in 45-70, 45-110, or 45-120. Then a martini in 577-450 and/or a 577 snider

Oh, I don’t know. I have a 17hmr, a 22 Magnum and a 204 and a 243. I have no regrets with those choices. The hmr shoots a bit flatter than the magnum and is a great bunny gun. I do use the 204 a lot as go to fox and roo rifle. I like the hmr and magnum as I don’t need to muck around reloading. Especially when I may shoot on a property where I am likely to shoot quite a few bunnies. You can pick up a Ruger American hmr for around $600 which is not a huge amount of dollars in the scheme of things.

A Stiller Tac 30 for $5,000 is no a huge amount of dollars in the scheme of things either, it just takes a little longer to save up.. Kids, now they end up being expensive.
