44-40. 1873 vs 1892 vs 1894

I'm keen on getting a 44-40 for single action.

I'd love an 1892 built before 1900 but beggars can't be choosers.

There are plenty of 1894s around, also the occasional 1873, and all the replicas, such as Rossi and uberti.

I currently have 2 miroku 1892's one in 357 and one in 44mag. Absolutely love both.

Any of you blokes right into your single action shooting? What do you recommend?

1873 lifts cartridge parallel with chamber, bolt pushes straight in. 1892 lifts em up at an angle, bolt catches the rim, cartridge then has to level out, so 92 more prone to jamming. But 73 a weaker action so magnum loads a no-no. 73 easier to strip down for cleaning, (2205 and AP70N dirty, Trail Boss clean, first two you’ll be cleaning more). I don’t shoot SAS, but many agree 73 more appropriate for fast-gunning mild loads.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

The Winny 73/ Henry 1860 is a way faster and slicker action the even a smoothed out Winny 92. Got both in .44-40.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

What are your thoughts on buying an old original 73 vs buying a uberti? Not really much price difference when they come up online. Is it possible to source parts for original 73's if needed?

I have a Uberti Henry but the action is the same as a 73. If you’re a fan of history and like old gear then by all means get an original. There is something appealing about shooting with hundred year old guns. Don’t think you’d need parts. They’re pretty well built.
