G’day gents
I have been watching and reading up on the 6.8 Western. Anyone done similar? Discuss.

Just another cartridge to dilute ammo manufacturers being able to reliably produce enough stuff for the 1000 cartridges already available. Re-barrel a 270 with a faster twist and you'd get pretty close to this without having to buy new dies etc. and the brass or ammo for this will be even harder to get. Or stick to the already awesome 270wsm. Releasing a new cartridge at this point in time with how the US are dealing with mega ammo and component shortages is just setting it up for failure.

I am a bit long in the tooth to be bothering about any new cartridges. I have my core, long time tested preferences. In saying that, anything new should definitely be investigated by those interested.

It’s advantage is that it is able to shoot the longer higher bc projectiles which won’t fit in a .270, as I understand it.

If interested in its advantage over the proven 270 and the 270WSM, have a gander at this.

6.5 and 7mm offer a better range of high BC pills, hard to see it getting alot of traction. Ill be keeping my 270 Win, 5 shots and 150gr at 3100fps it gives zero away to the 6.8 Western

Be interesting to see if it catches on. I figure the 6.8 Western is to the 270, what the 6.5 Creedmoor is to the 6.5x55. Pros and cons for both. It would be something I’d have a look at if it gains popularity.
